MUNDOMÁGICX: THE GREAT OPENING

Mundomágicx: The Great Opening was an experimental interactive performance developed during a three-week residency at Kampnagel for the 2024 edition of Nordwind Festival. It marked the launch of Mundomágicx, an ongoing artistic research project by STUDIO NOCLIP, which takes the ruins of the Chilean miniature theme park Mundomágico as a point of departure to explore questions of world-building, national identity, and the long-lasting influence of authoritarian and neoliberal narratives.
The piece proposed a collective re-curation of the original site—conceived during Pinochet’s dictatorship—as a speculative “translation of the national territory.” Built from a digital archive of the park’s decay, the performance reflected critically on its historical context and symbolic residue.
Following an initial encounter with the park’s legacy, the artists created a speculative reconstruction, re-enacting elements such as the band Los Mágicos del Ritmo, Miniature Chile, the carousel, the iconic train, cotton candy, and the chaotic atmosphere of the theme park.
The audience was invited to walk through the installation, ride the attractions, and dance to the concerts, becoming part of a fully immersive environment. Through this embodied experience, visitors could connect personally with the story, resonating with similar historical processes and interwoven decolonial narratives across contexts.
The project was developed by Studio Noclip and NEKO3 during a residency at Kampnagel as part of the 2024 Nordwind Festival, and presented within the festival programme.
